2021 Oct. 9: Field Trip – Gambrill State Park and the Tibetan Meditation Center

Gambrill State Park

Gambrill State Park is a beautiful mountain park, located on the ridge of the Catoctin Mountains in Frederick County. Its most popular feature is the sixteen miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. The park is separated into two areas, the Rock Run area, and the High Knob area. From the 1600-foot High Knob, three stone overlooks offer breathtaking views of the Frederick and Middletown Valleys, then continue to the northern reaches of the Shenandoah Mountains. Many things to see south of the Nature Center. The park is open from 8 am to sunset.

About the Tibetan Meditation Center

The Tibetan Meditation Center was founded in 1982 by Khenchen Konchog Gyaltshen Rinpoché based on the Buddhist understanding that everyone has the ground of goodness and the potential and desire to achieve complete freedom happiness. To actualize this vision, the center offers regular study and practice retreats, public lectures, and short-courses, as well as celebrations and ceremonies. Aside from the weekly programs and special events offered at our Frederick location, our Spiritual Director, Khenpo Tsultrim Tenzin Rinpoché , also maintains an active travel schedule teaching at related centers and groups throughout North America.

The Center consists of a shrine hall, an adjoining house (with a small library, book/gift-store, and residence of our spiritual director), a rock-garden replicating Milarepa’s cave, and a stūpa. Visitors are welcome to join any of our events or just to come and enjoy the peace and serenity around our grounds.
