Whether you recently purchased your first camera or have been making photographs for years, there is always something new to learn.
The Arundel Camera Club Photography Mentoring Program can connect you with a fellow club member who has experience in the area you would like to explore.
You might want help understanding exposure, improving your composition, learning Lightroom or Photoshop, photographing birds in flight, creating better portraits, preparing prints, entering club competitions, or developing your own photographic style.
Who Can Request a Mentor?
The program is available to Arundel Camera Club members with an active paid membership.
Mentees should be willing to:
- – Identify one or more specific skills or goals they would like to work on
- – Participate actively and practice between sessions when appropriate
- – Communicate respectfully and respond to their mentor
- – Arrive prepared for scheduled sessions
- – Provide reasonable notice when plans need to change
- – Respect the mentor’s time, availability, experience, and personal boundaries
- – Follow the Arundel Camera Club’s standards of conduct
You do not need to be a beginner. Mentoring is available to photographers at any experience level who would benefit from another member’s knowledge and perspective.
What Should I Expect?
Mentors are club members who volunteer their time and share their personal knowledge and experience. They are not professional instructors unless they separately identify themselves as such, and they are not expected to provide equipment repair, unlimited technical support, or commercial services.
You and your mentor will agree on:
- – The subject or skill you would like to explore
- – How you will communicate or meet
- – How frequently you will meet
- – What you hope to accomplish
- – Whether the arrangement will be a single session or continue for a period of time
Matches depend on mentor availability, experience, interests, location, and preferred mentoring format. We may not be able to provide an immediate match for every request.

After your request is received, a program coordinator will review it and contact you when a potentially suitable mentor is available.
