The next contest is scheduled for Thursday 24 October at 7:00pm at the Severna Park Baptist Church in Severna Park.

The theme is Light and Shadows. This theme emphasizes the use of dynamic lighting, and by extension shadows to create mood and composition. It is not about the source of light, but rather its effect. Examples may include but are not limited to beams of light in dust, broken light filtering through trees or window blinds, “Rembrandt” portrait lighting, and the shadows they create. The shadows created should also be a considered subject. Click here for examples of Light and Shadow photography.

Here are a few strategic hints on how to make the most of the competitions. Look at your images for the September open contests and for the digital light and shadows contest last week. Honorable mention images and images tossed out of those competitions are eligible to compete next week–as prints.
You can print the digitals if you want, thinking about the judge feedback on them. However, the judge for this contest will be looking for light and shadows. You also have time to shoot new images and print them for Thursday.

The contest rules allow you to bring up to three color prints and three monochrome prints that did not win first, second, third, or fourth place in any previous club contest. Honorable mentions and images not placed by past judges are eligible.

Last week’s judge wrote our contest chairman Ron Peiffer yesterday praising the quality of the contest submissions. Light and Shadows is a great theme with lots of possible subjects. Remember to matte your photo properly. Details are on our website. Here is a link to the website info on contests for a refresher.
