Please join the club on our April 20th field trip to photograph wildflowers at the Shenks Ferry Wildflower Preserve. Shenks Ferry is a 92-acre nature preserve along the eastern bank of the Susquehanna River.
Shenks Ferry is renowned for its display of 70 species of wildflowers, especially of spring ephemeral species. wildflowers that bloom annually from late March – early June, peaking in April and May. Wildflowers such as spring beauties, Virginia waterleaf, woodland phlox, wild geranium, and a host of other species throughout the season carpet the forested floor.
The trail starts .2 miles from the parking lot. The one-mile Wildflower Trail is a smooth, relatively flat trail that runs along Grubb Creek, offering experienced and novice hikers alike the opportunity to experience the wildflower season in the spring.
Tip: go early. Parking is limited.
