SUMMARY:Field Trip - Jerusalem Mill Village Covered Bridge
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on a field trip to the Jerusalem Mill Village Covered Bridge on Sunday 15 March 2026.  The address is 12228 Jericho Rd\, Kingsville\, MD 21087.  \nThe Jerusalem Mill Village was established in 1772 before Harford County was established and even before the United States of America. Today\, the village still includes the Grist Mill\, Miller’s House\, Blacksmith Forge\, Tenant House\, McCourtney’s General Store\, Jerusalem Mansion\, Bank Barn\, Springhouse\, two-story Smokehouse/Dairy\, and another residence.  The Jericho Covered Bridge is located adjacent to the village.   \nSunday hours are 1 PM to 4 PM for the Gristmill Museum & Visitor Center\, the Blacksmith Shop\, the General Store Museum and gift shop\, the Miller’s House\, and the Joinery. Learn about the village\, explore our artifacts\, and see how a 1772 gristmill operated. See the forge in operation as our blacksmiths demonstrate their trade. Experience family life in the 19th century\, where period-attired interpreters will describe cooking methods\, social life\, gardening\, and more. The Joinery is located in the front room of the Carriage House\, adjacent to the mill.  Watch our volunteer woodworker demonstrate the tools and techniques used in colonial times.  \nThe restored Jericho Road Covered Bridge is one of only three covered bridges in the entire state that is still in operation.  This is a public road so please use caution when visiting! \nThe village grounds are open to the public from sunrise to sunset.  There are picnic areas throughout the village and miles of hiking trails.  Several of our buildings are open to the public during the times indicated below\, subject to the availability of our limited volunteer staff.  \nClick here for directions.

SUMMARY:Photo Opportunity - Baltimore Museum of Industry Extended Hours
DESCRIPTION:Once a month\, the Baltimore Museum of Industry opens its doors for a special evening— free and open to all. \nEvery 3rd Wednesday from 4 PM to 8 PM\, Free. \nThis month they are open for extended hours on January 21st. \nIts a great opportunity to explore the museum and their waterfront campus. \nThe campus has great views of the Baltimore waterfront and the Dominos sign. \nWith sunset at 5:15PM\, bring your tripod for night shots of the Baltimore waterfront.  \nAnyone who has photographed inside the museum has probably had trouble balancing the bright incoming light from the windows with the dimly lit exhibits. Given the opportunity to photograph after sunset this can mitigate the challenge.  \nTripods outside along the waterfront should not be a problem. Unfortunately\, tripods are not allowed inside the museum. You can find the museum photography policy here. \nAddress: 1415 Key Highway  \nBaltimore\, MD 21230 \nParking is free. Food trucks may be available to. \nYou can register for the free event here. \n

SUMMARY:Program - Glen Thompson - Capturing Life on The Chesapeake
DESCRIPTION:Join us at 7PM on Thursday January 8 at the Severna Park Baptist for a talk Photographing the Chesapeake Bay: Techniques\, Challenges\, and Discoveries a never- ending project by Glenn Thompson. This includes the camera’s\, lens and settings I used on each image.\n \nA lifelong Maryland resident\, Glenn focuses his photography on the beauty and working life of the Chesapeake Bay. From his kayak\, he captures watermen at dawn\, migratory birds in flight\, and the everyday moments that define the bay he loves. His volunteer work as a crewmember aboard the skipjacks Dee of St. Mary’s and Wilma Lee have also given him a unique vantage point to photograph the Bay’s maritime heritage. \nGlen has been a member of the Bowie–Crofton Camera Club since 2013 and has twice been named Master Photographer of the Year. He is also a member of the Muddy Creek Art Guild and continues to volunteer as a crew on the Chesapeake skipjacks Dee of St. Mary’s and Wilma Lee. \nYou can find Glen’s photographs at https://glenn-thompson.pixels.com/

SUMMARY:Christmas Party
DESCRIPTION:At 6PM on December 11 the club will be hosting a potluck Christmas Party at the Severna Park Baptist Church (506 Benfield Rd\, Severna Park\, MD 21146).  \nThe club will provide drinks\, cups\, plates\, napkins\, and utensils.  \nSince we are holding the party at the Church\, we will need help setting up\, decorating\, and with cleanup. \nIt’s potluck so please bring a dish to share. Click here for the potluck signup. The password is ACC2025. \nNO BYOB. We do not want to offend out host venue. \nAs usual\, we will have a White Elephant gift exchange with the party. Please bring a wrapped gift for the exchange under $25.00. The gift exchange is completely voluntary.   \nGood gifts include photography related gifts and food. Use your imagination. Alcohol is ok but make sure it is sealed since we are celebrating in a church.  \nEveryone who brings a gift draws a number. The person who draws #1 then picks a gift\, opens it\, and shows it to the rest of the company. Then\, in ascending numerical order\, the participants choose to either pick and unwrap a new gift from the gift pile or “steal” a previously unwrapped gift. If a gift is “stolen”\, the person who had their gift taken from them gets to pick from the gift pile or “steal” a gift from someone else. The turn then passes to the next number (if a gift was chosen from the pile) or to the person who was just robbed (if a gift was stolen). Gifts can only be stolen two times (the third owner is the final owner)\, and a gift cannot be immediately re-stolen. When all the gifts have been opened\, the game is over. \nCamera club folklore tells of a gift so bad that it has been re-gifted at our Christmas party for ~30 years. It disappears and is lost for years at a time\, then suddenly reappears. That gift is the Pretty Neat Cosmetic Organizer. \nWhat are the odds it will reappear this year? Did someone receive it last year? Will it reappear this year? Will you be the lucky recipient? It’s kind of like when people tell you it is good luck when a bird craps on you! \n

SUMMARY:Field Trip - Conowingo Dam
DESCRIPTION:Join us 6 December 2025 at Conowingo Dam / Fisherman’s Park (Harford County Side) 2569 Shure’s Landing Road\, Darlington\, MD 21034. Open: 1 hour before sunrise to 1 hour after sunset. Dress warmly. There are bathrooms. Bring food\, drink\, and chairs. \nA good place for breakfast on the way up is the Ballpark Restaurant (3418 Conowingo Rd\, Street\, MD 21154-1945). \nConowingo Dam is a great place to see Eagles along with herons\, gulls and waterfowl. in the winter. When the turbines are in operation\, the intake valves suck water and fish through the dam into the river downstream\, providing excellent feeding for birds. The  water flowing through the dam remains unfrozen during the winter\, attracting birds searching for food. \nNo birding tour of Maryland is complete without a trip to Conowingo Dam. The Dam spans the Susquehanna River between Harford and Cecil Counties in northeastern Maryland. Fisherman’s Park (about 100 acres) offers public access near the foot of the dam on the Harford County side (west bank of the river). The waters above the dam are known as Conowingo Lake or Conowingo Reservoir\, but some maps just label it as the Susquehanna River. Conowingo Dam is an electricity-generating plant operated by Exelon Power Company. When the turbines are in operation\, the intake valves suck water and fish through the dam into the river downstream\, providing excellent feeding for birds. The water flowing through the dam remains unfrozen during the winter\, attracting birds searching for food. \nThe primary birding attractions at the dam are Bald Eagles\, Osprey (in warm months)\, herons\, gulls\, and waterfowl. Large numbers of Bald Eagles gather here starting in October through mid-March\, to take advantage of the food availability. \nIn addition to eagles and other birds\, catching the sunrise and the fisherman on the shore or river can be great photo opportunities. There is a nature walk along the shore. \nLocated nearby: \n\nSusquehanna State Park-4122 Wilkinson Rd\, Havre De Grace 21878\, Hours: 10am to Sunset\nSteppingstone Farm Museum – 461 Quaker Bottom Rd\, Havre De Grace 21078 • (410) 939-2299\, Hours: 11am to 3pm

SUMMARY:Program - Beth Haubach - Shooting with Abandon
DESCRIPTION:Join us at 7PM on Thursday November 13 at the Severna Park Baptist for a talk by Beth Haubach on Shooting with Abandon. \nTo watch it remotely\, just go to to our open FaceBook group where we will broadcast the talk https://www.facebook.com/groups/arundelcameraclub \nShooting with Abandon\nShooting with Abandon explores the art and practice of photographing abandoned places and objects\, with a focus on finding beauty in imperfection and decay. \nI’ll discuss key shooting considerations: lighting\, lens choices\, and essential equipment. I’ll also cover techniques like light painting\, long exposures\, and HDR to create dramatic effects. \nI’ll share my approach to photographing these spaces and editing techniques\, from using HDR for balanced exposure to enhancing the vintage feel of a photo by adding imperfections. \nLastly\, I’ll cover the safety and legality issues that apply when shooting abandoned buildings\, “urbexing\,” and I’ll provide ideas on places where you can practice some of the shooting techniques locally\, along with some notable locations in the Mid-Atlantic region. \nBeth Haubach Biography\nMy interest in photography began when I found my dad’s Nikon camera that he’d purchased in Tokyo while serving in the Army during the Korean War. Over the years\, this interest has increased to the point I’ve owned and outgrown several cameras.  I honed my photography skills on the soccer pitch\, the lacrosse field\, and the hockey rink but I’m equally at home in the field shooting landscapes and wildlife; capturing street scenes\, architecture\, vintage pieces\, or mural art; or even trekking to “unsavory” places to photograph abandoned locations.  \nI’ve had the wonderful opportunity to work with Capital Photography Center (CPC) “behind” the scenes and\, more recently\, as an instructor for Capital Photography Center. These positions have allowed me access to many amazing and accomplished photographers and instructors\, which ultimately helped me grow in my skills and confidence as a photographer.  \nI relish the chance to capture the beauty of a sunset or the awe of a landscape\, a spider in its glistening web\, a dew-covered flower in the garden\, a gritty street scene\, or the allure of a vintage piece. I have discovered in recent years my true passion lies in creating digital art from those photos. I’ve also fallen in love with creating abstract images\, particularly those that result from adding oil to water\, or the meticulous placement of water drops to capture a subject refracted in a water drop.  \nThere is something incredibly rewarding about the creative process. While the subject may differ\, the outcome is ultimately about the variety and range of emotions I can elicit from the viewer just by catching that perfect moment in time.

SUMMARY:Photo Talk Night
DESCRIPTION:Join us at 7PM on Thursday October 16 at the Severna Park Baptist Church for a Photo Talk Night. \nThe objective of Photo Talk Night is discuss club members photographs that they are working on for which they are seeking a bit of feedback\, including critical comments and suggestions for ways to tackle the image. No brutal takedowns are acceptable. It is an honest and friendly conversation with an opportunity to be creative and encouraging to our colleagues. This is not supposed to be a high and mighty “Critique\,” it’s a conversation. The goal is for everyone to leave at the end of the night feeling they learned something. \nThere will be a Talk Leader who cues up the photographs and asks the respective photographers to tell the story of the photo—where\, when\, how it was taken. The Talk Leader will also ask the photographer to talk about what they wanted to accomplish with the photo and what features of the photo they have emphasized or worked to accomplish their goal. What did they want the viewer to see and maybe feel when viewing the photo? \nDiscussion will involve club members asking questions about the photo—What about the light? What did you need to change in the photo to accomplish your goal or your vision for the photo? The discussion can include observations on why the photo works or not and what gets in the way of the photo’s impact or message or what makes it work or what can make it work better? The conversation can be a lengthy one\, or it can be a few comments. \nWhen the Talk Leader sees the conversation is done\, they will que up the next photo. It is not the Talk Leader’s job to make all the comments or provide critique—only to encourage and facilitate discussion. The Talk Leader should not exercise expert advice. We are all colleagues. \nThe Talk leader and members can work on using the language of photography to discuss the photo.  It can include technical details like f-stops\, shutter speed\, ISO\, depth of field\, leading lines\, composition\, color balance\, etc.\, but it is about the photograph and where to go from here.  It’s to help people talk about vision\, not necessarily technology. \nThere will not a be a theme\, so anything goes. Images can be past contest entries\, future contest entries\, or just images the club member wants to discuss and share\, seeking feedback. The Photo Talk is open to both novice and unlimited paid club members. Club members may enter up to three digital images. Images need to be 2048 pixels maximum on the longest side. They should be jpg formatted. The deadline for submissions is noon on Tuesday before the contest. Even though this is not a contest\, we will use the file naming conventions and formatting that are detailed in the Contest Rules. \nHere are some other resource: \n\nACC Digital  Contest Submission Instructions. \nCritique Submission Portal\n\nWe will also stream the meeting. Info on how to connect will be sent closer to the meeting.

SUMMARY:Field Trip - Blackwater National Wildlife Visitor Center
DESCRIPTION:Basically\, you drive around the wildlife loop and photograph birds and if you are lucky other wildlife from your car. There are some nice trails and boardwalks if you would like to walk. \nBlackwater National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) was established in 1933 as a waterfowl sanctuary for birds migrating along the Atlantic Flyway\, and currently encompasses more than 32\,000 acres.  Blackwater NWR is home to an incredible amount of plant and animal diversity in its three major habitats – forest\, marsh and shallow water. The refuge contains one-third of Maryland’s tidal wetlands\, which makes it an ecologically important area within the state. These wetlands also provide storm protection to lower Dorchester County\, including the town of Cambridge. Blackwater NWR is recognized as a “Wetland of International Importance” by the Ramsar Convention and was named a priority wetland in the North American Waterfowl Management Plan. In addition\, Blackwater NWR has been designated as an Internationally Important Bird Area. \nBlackwater NWR is home to the largest natural population of formerly endangered Delmarva peninsula fox squirrels and is also home to the largest breeding population of American bald eagles on the East Coast\, north of Florida. \nThe refuge has been referred to as the “Everglades of the North\,” and has been called one of the “Last Great Places” by the Nature Conservancy. \nThe best time for viewing waterfowl is between mid-October and mid-March. Wintering species include tundra swans\, Canada and snow geese\, and over 20 species of ducks. The most common ducks found here are mallards\, black ducks\, blue-winged teal\, green-winged teal\, wigeon\, and pintails. Although most waterfowl migrate north in the spring\, some remain through the summer\, using the protected areas of the Refuge to raise their young. These nesting waterfowl include Canada geese\, mallards\, black ducks\, wood ducks\, and blue-winged teal. \nThe refuge is open daily from dawn to dusk. The Visitor Center is open Tuesday through Sunday\, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  \nFees: Private vehicle – $3.00 (per vehicle)
