SUMMARY:Business Meeting
DESCRIPTION:On May 21 we will host our business meeting to elect officers\, discuss changes to our contest rules\, discuss dues\, and select themes for next year’s contests. \nElections \nFor the election\, we could really use your help. This is an all volunteer run club. We have the following positions: president\, programs\, contests\, secretary/treasurer\, newsletter editor\, field trips\, refreshments\, members at large\, and webmaster. \nIt’s best for program and contests if we have co-chairs. So please consider serving in one of these positions.  \nIf you would like to serve in one of these positions\, email the executive committee officers@arundelcameraclub.org. \nContest Themes \nWe have established a contest themes committee to brainstorm and discuss themes as well as changes to the themed contests. These will be presented at the business meeting for discussion and vote. \nContest Rules \nPer the new by-laws\, the contest rules must be reviewed every two years. This is your chance to suggest and discuss changes. \nBudget and Dues \nOur club treasury will give a report on the clubs financials\, assets\, liabilities\,  and we will discuss changes to the dues if necessary.

SUMMARY:Program - Denise Silva - Night Photography
DESCRIPTION:Night photography is both rewarding and challenging. It requires specific equipment and camera settings with a dash of patience. The end result\, unique images that look into a world often unseen\, such as the activity on the streets of the city once the sun goes down and people head in for the night. With the right equipment\, you can even see into space\, catching glimpses of stars the naked-eye can’t see. This presentation will start you on your journey to night photography.  \nDenise’s passion for photography began when her grandmother shared captivating images from her travels to Egypt and Africa on safari. Evenings spent watching slideshows planted the seed\, which blossomed 35 years later into a deep love for photography—especially travel photography—leading to the creation of Road Runner Photography Tours. Since 2013\, Denise has been running photography workshops\, helping others discover the art and joy of photography. \nDenise has been recognized as one of the Top 200 Women Photographers Who Inspire by Nature Photo Guides. Her work has been featured in Extraordinary Vision (EV) Magazine and Breakthrough Photography’s Guide to Night Sky Photography. She is passionate about sharing her knowledge while introducing people to the stunning landscapes\, diverse wildlife\, and vibrant cultures around the world. \nDenise has contributed multiple articles to the Fujifilm X/GFX USA website and was interviewed by Peggy Farren of Understanding Photography on Overcoming the Challenges of Street Photography. \nDenise embraces the idea that “every day above ground is a good one\,” so get out and enjoy! Join her and her team for your next photography adventure! \nYou can see some of Denise’s photography at her online Gallery. \nRoadrunnerphotographytours@gmail.com and info@roadrunnerphotographytours.com

SUMMARY:Program - Bob Webber - Abstract Photography
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday night 19 March 2026 we will hosting our very own Bob Webber for a talk on abstract photography at the Severna Park Baptist Church starting at 7:00 PM. This talk is in preparation for our April contests theme. \nBob has been member of the Arundel Camera Club for over a decade having and has served as the Vice President of Contest and as a critical member of the contests committee for years. He has a distinctive eye and style for photography unique within the club. He has earned Unlimited status in Digital\, Color Prints\, and Monochrome Prints. \nBob built his first camera out of a cardboard box\, tracing paper and his grandmother’s Opera glasses. He started serious hobby photography with an Praktica SLR in 1970\, working with black and \nwhite film and developing and printing his own work. Later he also tried color slides with the Cibachrome process. \nIn 2001 Bob moved to digital photography and got serious about the art of photography in 2014 when he joined the Arundel Camera Club.  \nHis interest in creative symmetrical designs provoked the question: What is that and how was it made? This has led some folk to think he knows something about Abstract Photography.  \nTo wit Abstract Photos captures something outside the normal view of the subject such as the patterns\, shapes or colors in such a way that these attributes greatly dominate the original traditional view. Abstracts are not photos of things but of some attribute of the subject. In some cases\, there is no traditional view left\, only features such as shapes colors and patterns etc. Now is the time to find out if my ideas are correct.

DESCRIPTION:Please join us on a field trip to the Jerusalem Mill Village Covered Bridge on Sunday 15 March 2026.  The address is 12228 Jericho Rd\, Kingsville\, MD 21087.  \nThe Jerusalem Mill Village was established in 1772 before Harford County was established and even before the United States of America. Today\, the village still includes the Grist Mill\, Miller’s House\, Blacksmith Forge\, Tenant House\, McCourtney’s General Store\, Jerusalem Mansion\, Bank Barn\, Springhouse\, two-story Smokehouse/Dairy\, and another residence.  The Jericho Covered Bridge is located adjacent to the village.   \nSunday hours are 1 PM to 4 PM for the Gristmill Museum & Visitor Center\, the Blacksmith Shop\, the General Store Museum and gift shop\, the Miller’s House\, and the Joinery. Learn about the village\, explore our artifacts\, and see how a 1772 gristmill operated. See the forge in operation as our blacksmiths demonstrate their trade. Experience family life in the 19th century\, where period-attired interpreters will describe cooking methods\, social life\, gardening\, and more. The Joinery is located in the front room of the Carriage House\, adjacent to the mill.  Watch our volunteer woodworker demonstrate the tools and techniques used in colonial times.  \nThe restored Jericho Road Covered Bridge is one of only three covered bridges in the entire state that is still in operation.  This is a public road so please use caution when visiting! \nThe village grounds are open to the public from sunrise to sunset.  There are picnic areas throughout the village and miles of hiking trails.  Several of our buildings are open to the public during the times indicated below\, subject to the availability of our limited volunteer staff.  \nClick here for directions.

SUMMARY:Photo Opportunity - Baltimore Museum of Industry Extended Hours
DESCRIPTION:Once a month\, the Baltimore Museum of Industry opens its doors for a special evening— free and open to all. \nEvery 3rd Wednesday from 4 PM to 8 PM\, Free. \nThis month they are open for extended hours on January 21st. \nIts a great opportunity to explore the museum and their waterfront campus. \nThe campus has great views of the Baltimore waterfront and the Dominos sign. \nWith sunset at 5:15PM\, bring your tripod for night shots of the Baltimore waterfront.  \nAnyone who has photographed inside the museum has probably had trouble balancing the bright incoming light from the windows with the dimly lit exhibits. Given the opportunity to photograph after sunset this can mitigate the challenge.  \nTripods outside along the waterfront should not be a problem. Unfortunately\, tripods are not allowed inside the museum. You can find the museum photography policy here. \nAddress: 1415 Key Highway  \nBaltimore\, MD 21230 \nParking is free. Food trucks may be available to. \nYou can register for the free event here. \n

SUMMARY:Program - Glen Thompson - Capturing Life on The Chesapeake
DESCRIPTION:Join us at 7PM on Thursday January 8 at the Severna Park Baptist for a talk Photographing the Chesapeake Bay: Techniques\, Challenges\, and Discoveries a never- ending project by Glenn Thompson. This includes the camera’s\, lens and settings I used on each image.\n \nA lifelong Maryland resident\, Glenn focuses his photography on the beauty and working life of the Chesapeake Bay. He is also a member of the Muddy Creek Art Guild and continues to volunteer as a crew on the Chesapeake skipjacks Dee of St. Mary’s and Wilma Lee. \nYou can find Glen’s photographs at https://glenn-thompson.pixels.com/
