SUMMARY:Anne Arundel County Fair Photography Competition and Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:For the third year in a row\, John Milleker\, Jr. has taken the role of the Chairperson of Photography for the Anne Arundel County Fair. \nThe vision is that the Arundel Camera Club should be in charge of their own county fair photography competition and exhibit.  \nThe club has been afforded a very interesting opportunity that will enable us to reach many more photography enthusiasts in the county with the side benefit of potentially recruiting new club members. \nDuring the fair\, if we can manage the coverage\, we will be able to set up a table in the photography exhibit area with information and flyers leading new interested photographers to us. \nLast year we had fantastic support from our club and we will need the whole club’s support again this year. \nIf you are interested and can help\, please let John know! We will need helpers to receive and sort the entries\, as well as hang them on the exhibit walls (September 7th & 8th). During the fair\, September 10th through September the 14th we will need enthusiastic club members to be on hand to discuss the club with interested parties and hand out flyers and business cards. On Monday September 15th we could use help with the pickup of photographs and ribbons. \nIf you can help out we really appreciate it\, please let John know which day/days and times you may be able to cover. Last year\, the fair waived the entry fees for our volunteers. John\, or one of the other club officers\, will be on site for the receiving and pickup dates as well as the majority of the fair opening dates as well.

SUMMARY:Zoom - Photo Talk/Critique Night
DESCRIPTION:Join us via Zoom at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday\, October 6 for a Photo Talk and Critique Night. \nThis friendly\, informal event gives club members an opportunity to share photographs they are working on and receive thoughtful feedback\, constructive criticism\, and suggestions for improving their images. Our goal is to encourage creativity and help everyone leave having learned something new. Honest feedback is welcome; harsh or disrespectful criticism is not. \nEach photographer will share a photograph of their own and explain what they are trying to do with it. \nClub members will then have an opportunity to ask questions and discuss: \n\nWhat makes the photograph successful\nWhat may distract from its impact or message\nHow the image might be strengthened\nOther creative approaches the photographer could consider\n\nA Talk Leader will guide the conversation\, encourage participation\, and keep the discussion moving. The leader’s role is to facilitate the discussion—not to present the photographs or provide all the comments and critiques. \nWhen the discussion has run its course\, the Talk Leader will move to the next participant. We will rotate through the participants one photograph at a time so that everyone has an opportunity to share. \nIf we have a lot of participants\, photographers will be limited to one photograph each. Time permitting\, we will go through the rotation again for more photographs. Members should be prepared to share up to three digital images. There is no theme\, so anything goes! \nPhoto Talk Night is open to all paid club members in both the Novice and Unlimited categories.  \nSignup\n\n← Back Thank you for your response. ✨\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\nName(required)\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n\n\nEmail(required)\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n	\n\n \n \n \n Submit \n \n \n \nΔ

SUMMARY:Program - Darwin Green - Where the Water Waits
DESCRIPTION:Please join us in person or online at 7:00PM on 15 October 2026 for a presentation from our very own Darwin Green. Darwin is a Maryland-based photographer originally from Southern California. His work explores the meeting points between people\, the built environment\, and the natural world\, with particular attention to landscapes shaped by water. His current project\, Where the Water Waits\, is an ongoing photographic portrait of the Chesapeake Bay assembled through extensive travel across Maryland and Virginia. Green works professionally as a licensed clinical professional counselor and is a single father.  \nWhere the Water Waits is an ongoing photographic portrait of the Chesapeake Bay and the lives\, structures\, and systems gathered along its edges. After making Maryland his home\, Darwin Green was inspired to explore the Bay and develop a deeper understanding of the environment surrounding him. He has since traveled to nearly 100 locations across Maryland and Virginia\, photographing watermen\, waterfront communities\, wildlife\, industry\, architecture\, and the changing relationship between land and water. \nThe project is organized into four overlapping themes: People\, Structures\, Systems\, and Seascapes.  It is envisioned as a set of four interconnected fine-art books. In this presentation\, Green will discuss how the project developed from a travel-photography assignment into a sustained study of the Chesapeake\, the planning and equipment used in the field\, and the challenge of shaping hundreds of photographs into a cohesive body of work. \n

SUMMARY:Contest - Digital - Reflections
DESCRIPTION:Thursday evening at 7:00PM at the Severna Park Baptist Church is our monthly digital contest. Entries will be reviewed and critiqued by a judge. Top photographs earn ribbons and points toward club awards and recognition. \nThe theme is Reflection photography – Reeflection Photography\, also referred to as mirror photography\, is when you use reflective surfaces to create an artistic echo of a scene. This type of photography can add an interesting spin to locations that are hotspots for photographers such as oceans\, lakes\, puddles\, and even rain drops. They?re all subjects that are commonly used to create brilliant reflection photographs. Of course\, less traditional resources such as metal\, tiles\, mirrors and anything with a shiny surface can also be easily incorporated into this type of photography. The reflections should be captured in camera and not created through Photoshop or similar editors. Click here for examples of Reflections Photography. \nThe contest is open to both novice and unlimited paid club members. Club members may enter up to three digital images. Images need to be 2048 pixels maximum on the longest side. They should be jpg formatted. The deadline for submissions is noon on Tuesday before the contest. File naming conventions and formatting are detailed in the Contest Rules. \nHere are some other resource: \nACC Digital Contest Submission Instructions\nSubmission Portal \nWe will also stream the meeting. SUMMARY:Christmas Party
DESCRIPTION:At 6:30PM on December 10 Greg and Cathy Hockel are hosting the Christmas Party this year. The address is 103 Longfellow Dr.\, Millersville\, MD\, 21108. Their phone number is 443-618-0563. \nThe club via our host will provide drinks\, cups\, plates\, napkins\, and utensils. It’s potluck so please bring a dish to share. Bring your own beer and wine. \nAs usual\, we will have a White Elephant gift exchange with the party. Please bring a wrapped gift for the exchange under $25.00. The gift exchange is completely voluntary. \nEveryone who brings a gift draws a number. The person who draws #1 then picks a gift\, opens it\, and shows it to the rest of the company. Then\, in ascending numerical order\, the participants choose to either pick and unwrap a new gift from the gift pile or “steal” a previously unwrapped gift. If a gift is “stolen”\, the person who had their gift taken from them gets to pick from the gift pile or “steal” a gift from someone else. The turn then passes to the next number (if a gift was chosen from the pile) or to the person who was just robbed (if a gift was stolen). Gifts can only be stolen two times (the third owner is the final owner)\, and a gift cannot be immediately re-stolen. When all the\ngifts have been opened; the game is over. \nCamera club folklore tells of a gift so bad that it has been re-gifted at our Christmas party for ~30 years. It disappears and is lost for years at a time\, then suddenly reappears. That gift is the Pretty Neat Cosmetic Organizer. \nWhat are the odds it will reappear this year? Did someone receive it last year? Will it reappear this year? Will you be the lucky recipient? It’s kind of like when people tell you it is good luck when a bird craps on you!

SUMMARY:Photo Talk Night
DESCRIPTION:Join us at 7PM on Thursday February 4 at the Severna Park Baptist Church for a Photo Talk Night. \nThe objective of Photo Talk Night is to discuss club members photographs that they are working on for which they are seeking a bit of feedback\, including critical comments and suggestions for ways to tackle the image. No brutal takedowns are acceptable. It is an honest and friendly conversation with an opportunity to be creative and encouraging to our colleagues. This is not supposed to be a high and mighty “Critique\,” it’s a conversation. The goal is for everyone to leave at the end of the night feeling they learned something. \nThere will be a Talk Leader who cues up the photographs and asks the respective photographers to tell the story of the photo—where\, when\, how it was taken. The Talk Leader will also ask the photographer to talk about what they wanted to accomplish with the photo and what features of the photo they have emphasized or worked to accomplish their goal. What did they want the viewer to see and maybe feel when viewing the photo? \nDiscussion will involve club members asking questions about the photo—What about the light? What did you need to change in the photo to accomplish your goal or your vision for the photo? The discussion can include observations on why the photo works or not and what gets in the way of the photo’s impact or message or what makes it work or what can make it work better? The conversation can be a lengthy one\, or it can be a few comments. \nWhen the Talk Leader sees the conversation is done\, they will cue up the next photo. It is not the Talk Leader’s job to make all the comments or provide critique—only to encourage and facilitate discussion. The Talk Leader should not exercise expert advice. We are all colleagues.

SUMMARY:Contest - Digital - Street Photography
DESCRIPTION:Thursday evening at 7:00PM at the Severna Park Baptist Church is our monthly digital contest. Entries will be reviewed and critiqued by a judge. Top photographs earn ribbons and points toward club awards and recognition. \nThe theme is Street Photography – Street photography captures candid\, unposed moments and scenes found in public places such as streets\, parks\, markets\, transit areas\, festivals\, and urban environments. The goal is to document everyday life\, human nature\, culture\, or the atmosphere of a place in an authentic and spontaneous way. People are commonly an important element in street photography\, but a person does not have to appear in the image. Photographs of urban scenes\, objects\, signs\, architecture\, or environments without people are acceptable if they strongly convey the character\, mood\, story\, or human presence of the street environment. Images focused solely on buildings or architecture without a sense of street life or human context are better suited for architectural or cityscape photography rather than street photography. Click here for examples of Street Photography. Info on how to connect will be sent closer to the meeting.
