2016 May 11: Business Meeting

On May 11 we will host our business meeting to elect officers, discuss changes to our rules and charter, discuss dues, and select themes for next year’s contests.

For the election, we could really use your help. This is an all volunteer run club. We have the following positions: president, program chairman, contests chairman, secretary/treasurer, newsletter editor, field trip chairman, refreshments chairman, and webmaster.

It’s best for program and contests if we have co-chairman. So please consider serving in one of these positions. We especially need new program as well as contest chairman and co-chairman.

If you would like to serve in one of these positions, email the officers at officers@arundelcameraclub.org.

Start brainstorming ideas for themes, field trips, and other activities.

2016 March 2: Tabletop Night – Geometric Shapes

Geometric Shapes

On March 2nd, we will have a tabletop night. Last year we had two very successful tabletop nights. We had another one in January. You may want to consider shooting images for the April contest theme of Geometric Shapes.

Club members will bring their cameras and stuff to photograph. Flowers and food are always popular. If you have strobes bring them. Also backdrops and tablecloths can be useful. Unlimited members will work with novice members to share tips and tricks to improve their macro photography.

2016 Jan. 27: Meeting Cancelled

According to the aacps.org website School is closed tomorrow thus our meeting/contests are cancelled as well.

STATUS for 1-27-16 – All school and administrative offices will be closed on Wednesday, January 27 due to ongoing weather-related issues. A Code Red is in effect for employees. Unit III personnel will receive a separate message with reporting instructions for tomorrow as required by their negotiated agreement. The January 27 closing again moves the teacher workday to Thursday, January 28, and means that schools will be closed for students on Thursday. At this time, the third marking period will begin for students on Friday, January 29, and will be an A Day for high school and middle school students. AACPS has now used two of the five days built into the calendar for inclement weather closings.”

2015 Dec. 16: Christmas Party

Wednesday, December 16 at 7:30 PM
Hosts: Bob and Susan Webber

The club via our host will provide drinks, cups, plates, napkins, and utensils. It’s pot luck so please bring a dish to share. It’s Bring Your Own Beer & wine.

As usual, we will have a gift exchange with the party. Please bring a gift for the exchange under $20.00. Everyone who brings a gift draws a number. The person who draws #1 then picks a gift, opens it, and shows it to the rest of the company. Then, in ascending numerical order, the participants choose to either pick and unwrap a new gift from the gift pile or “steal” a previously unwrapped gift. If a gift is “stolen”, the person who had their gift taken from them gets to pick from the gift pile or “steal” a gift from someone else. The turn then passes to the next number (if a gift was chosen from the pile) or to the person who was just robbed (if a gift was stolen). Gifts can only be stolen two times (the third owner is the final owner), and a gift can not be immediately re-stolen. When all the gifts have been opened, the game is over.

Camera club folklore tells of a gift so bad that it has been re gifted at our Christmas party for ~30 years. It disappears and is lost for years at a time, then suddenly reappears. That gift is the Pretty Neat Cosmetic Organizer.

Severna Park High School School Access

Last week you may have noticed the side door was locked to the Severna Park High School. We were notified that the side door has to remain locked. To gain entrance to the school, one of us must go through the front door and lobby. Once inside, none of our club members will have to man the front door to let club members in. We cannot prop he door open or get the custodial staff to unlock the door. If the door is closed and locked, we will tape a sign to the door with a cell phone number. Call the number and one of the club members will come out to open the door.

2015 Jan. 21: Tonight’s meeting Cancelled

Anne Arundel County has cancelled all evening activities due to weather. Therefore, our meeting is cancelled. We hope to see everyone next week for our next meeting.

On December 3rd we are going to have a portrait night. Similar to table top night, we will bring in lights and props and take portraits. We will have at least two sets of studio strobes and should be able to setup two shooting stations, maybe three. We will solicit club members as volunteer models, taking turns modeling and shooting. This will be hands on and should help club members with the basic skills needed for taking environmental portraits. We will cover one light and two light setups. So come prepared to have fun.

2014 Nov. 5: Annapolis Photo Walk

Mike Thomas Photos: Annapolis &emdash; Racing Skipjack

In lieu of a program on November 5th we will meet in Downtown Annapolis at 7:30PM for an evening photo walk. Although sunset is around 5:00PM, we can get some night shots of Annapolis. Again we will try to team up new with seasoned photographers. Bring a tripod. If you don’t have one, we will try to loan you one for the walk. We are looking for people to lead this walk.

I plan on attending. I will meet you at the the nautical double mast flagpole in Susan B Campbell Park at the city dock in downtown Annapolis at 7:30pm. Please let me know if you plan on attending. I have one spare tripod. We will walk around the docks, head up towards the capital and church.
